Morris Park

Morris Park, a neighborhood that’s under a half-square-mile, is part of the same district as Allerton, Pelham Parkway, Pelham Gardens, Van Nest and more. The area is bordered by Bronx Park East and Bronx River Parkway to the west, Adee Avenue, Boston Road and East Gun Hill Road to the north, and the Hutchinson River Parkway to the east. The multitude of bus routes that service the neighborhood run throughout the Bronx as well as into Midtown Manhattan and Westchester. Many residents take the Bx12 bus stops at the Bay Plaza Shopping Center, a giant plaza with stores ranging from Old Navy to K Mart to Pathmark as well as a movie theater. The neighborhood also offers a variety of grocery stores.
Morris Park has a sizable Italian community as well as many Albanians, Irish, Hispanic and African-Americans. The diversity is evident from the huge array of denominations among the 35-plus houses of worship, from mosques to Baptist, Catholic, Episcopal, Lutheran and nondenominational churches to conservative and orthodox synagogues.

Of the various health care facilities here, the best known are The Albert Einstein College of Medicine, Jacobi Medical Center and the Jack D. Weiler Hospital division of Montefiore Medical Center, all located on the neighborhood’s eastern edge.

St. Francis Xavier School and St. Clare of Assisi School are two local Catholic schools. Our Savior Lutheran School, P.S. 83, and P.S. 108 are among the local public schools. There are six high schools, including Bronx High for the Visual Arts, Collegiate Institute for Math and Science and Pelham Preparatory Academy. Albert Einstein College and Mercy College have campuses here. There’s plenty in the area to keep kids busy, including outdoor areas like Burns Playground located on Mace Ave. which features modern play equipment and handball courts, and the sprawling Loreto Playground on Morris Park Ave., with areas for basketball, bocce, roller hockey and handball. For fitness-minded adults, there’s a range of gyms, including several New York Sports Club locations, Curves, a variety of independent facilities and the Morris Park Boxing Club.
